Change is the Only Constant

We just got work yesterday morning that our voyage will be ending in South Africa. The State Department is advising against travel via cruise ship and that recommendation is ultimately what put things over the edge for us. In a way, it’s sort of a relief. We’ve dealt with constant itinerary changes and trying to regroup, so knowing that this is “the end” provides some degree of closure. At the same time, it feels abrupt. I worry about having the opportunity in community to have a rightful closure to the experience.  

Our last day at sea will be March 13.  We will spend March 14-23 in port in Cape Town, completing field programs and classes. March 24/25 will focus on packing, convocation and disembarkment. All coursework will be completed online. 

As a family, we are unsure of how to proceed with our own travel plans. We have reserved Air B and Bs in The Netherlands and Germany for late April/early May and have plane tickets home from Frankfurt on May 4. Cape Town is extremely far away from Frankfurt. There is a lot to focus on right now so we are going to do our best to wrap up the formal SAS experience before figuring out our individual plans.
