It was a long trip but we finally made it to Dubai. We arrived on December 31st just in time to start the New Year's Eve countdown from the immigration line. Happy New Year!
Sleep has been rough but we're doing the best we can. There have been times when we have slept until 10:30 a.m. and times when the whole family is up from midnight to 2:00 a.m. Slowly but surely We will adjust.
Dubai is a wild place. It's kind of like a classier more international Las Vegas. Without the casinos. And lighter on the alcohol. Our home base ended up being the Dubai Mall which lies at the base of the Burj Kalifa, the world's tallest building.
Everyone was fairly impressed. And WE only got up to the 125th floor. The rest of the mall we INTENSE! Biggest mall in the world and Fashion Avenue (one section of the mall) boasted all the ritziest stores you could ever want. Noone glared at us, but we wanted nothing to do with $25,000 watches.
Off to the beach for the rest of the day. So quiet and peaceful compared to the mall. Boys played in the water for hours and hours while the rest of us napped in the sand.
Dubai at night brought out all the sweet cars. Ferarris, Lamborghinis, Bentleys and Rolls Royces.
The next day we were up and off to the ship to board! Now it's time for Semester at Sea!!
